While many students relax during the summer when school is out, there are other students who spent time learning about and helping in the community. Several student members of Most Holy Trinity’s National Junior Honor Society spend time volunteering in the community this summer. They volunteered in a variety of places including: Beaumont Hospital, the Animal Rescue League, Gigi’s Playhouse, Queen of Peace Church, El Paso Dance Academy, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, the Homeless Shelter and at Most Holy Trinity School. Student Angela Fortini spent time at the Animal Rescue League and at Gigi’s Playhouse: “I learned how to work with animals and how to help people who are handicapped.” Student Hannah Coats taught dance to three and four year-olds: “Because of my experience, I have learned to be more patient.” Student Victoria Garza was exposed to many different departments at Beaumont Hospital: “I learned a great deal about the different departments that a hospital has.”
The students are required to volunteer as part of their membership in NJHS and at the end of the year the school will recognize them during an awards ceremony sponsored by the society.
