Our Lady of Assumption

Briana Avina, a sixth-grade student at Our Lady of Assumption, attended the Junior National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. during the summer. The conference is for middle school students who RGC Sept _Page_6_Image_0006demonstrate leadership potential, are motivated to learn and excel, and who desire the critical leadership skills needed for success in middle school, high school and beyond. During the conference, Briana attended sessions and learned about leadership and the history of the United States.  She also visited various landmarks around the D.C. area, including the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Washington Monument.  After visiting each site, Briana wrote a paragraph about each area that she visited and what it meant to her. “I enjoyed seeing all the landmarks and hearing about the history of the United States,” she said. “I also learned about leadership and I learned that I need to speak out for others when things are not right.”
