Sr. Luz Doñez Elected new Superior General of the Missionary Sisters of Jesus, Mary & Joseph

As a Superior, Sr. Luz will be in charge of Missionary Sisters of Jesus, Mary and Joseph throughout the United States and Mexico.She is the first sister to be elected Superior General for the congregation from the United States. She is also the first sister to be elected who is from Texas!

Sr. Luz, along with Sister Margie Silguero, is currently in charge of the West Texas Ministries, a mobile Pastoral Sister’s Ministry, which serves the rural areas of the El Paso Diocese, based at St. Mary’s in Marfa, where she’s an administrator and has been serving since 1995.

Sr. Luz celebrated her 50th anniversary of Consecrated Life on Nov. 8, 2014. She entered the convent as a 14-year-old on Jun. 4, 1961 at Mt. Tabor Convent in Corpus Christi. She was born in Harlingen to the late Cipriano and Merced Doñez, the next to the youngest child in a family of 13 children.
