Inspired by a message from God, Alissa Saenz, a 5th-grade student at Most Holy Trinity has been collecting gently used clothing and toys to support “Proyecto Santo Nino,” which is run by the Sisters of Charity and serves children with special needs in Juarez. Alyssa has asked for donations from family friends and classmates; she and her family have also donated their own possessions to this cause.
Alyssa was inspired to take on this mission after a session of contemplative prayer at Christmas time, during which time she was searching for the baby Jesus in the streets of Mexico; she envisioned many other children with disabilities who were also looking for him.
Afterwards, she felt God has been calling her to help the poor in some way; she was put in touch with Sister Carol at Santo Nino who told her about the project.
When asked if she had anything to add about her experience, Alissa said, “God put this in my heart because of my brother, because he has disabilities, and I see the expense. This is a way to help others.”
