The first day of school for El Paso's Catholic schools will be Wednesday, Aug. 8. Until then, registration is ongoing, so schools are encouraging parents to register as soon as possible to ensure a place for their children.

To help parents decide which school is the best fit for their children, here are a few fun facts about our Catholic schools:

Our Lady of Assumption and Most Holy Trinity Schools provide financial aid to all families who qualify.

All teachers at St. Patrick Cathedral School are gifted/talented trained.

Our Lady of the Valley School has a school bus that picks up and drops off students at the Zaragoza International Bridge; a bus brings students to and from Our Lady of Assumption from Ft. Bliss

St. Raphael School has a Garden of Eden, where 3rd and 4th graders learn to plant. The lessons learned are integrated with their Science curriculum, where they learn about seeds, germination, and photosynthesis, and their Religion Curriculum, where they learn about the ““Miracle of Life””.

Loretto Academy Elementary has a robotics team.

Cathedral High School, Father Yermo High School, and Loretto Academy will offer Dual-Credit in the 2012-2013 school year.

St. Joseph, St. Raphael, and St. Pius X have band programs.

St. Matthew will have a new football and soccer field this school year.

Enrolling their child in Pre-K, parents may be eligible to receive a tax break.

After-school care is offered in the majority of the Catholic schools.
