Our Lady of Valley, St. Matthew prep for school year

Our Lady of the Valley and St. Matthew Catholic schools have been making preparations for the new school year beginning Aug. 8.

Our Lady of the Valley School will begin the year with a new interim principal, Ana O'Neill. She began her new position on July 24.

The school has cleaned all classrooms top to bottom as well as having the floors stripped and waxed this summer. The final steps in renovating the computer lab, the principal's office and the custodian supply room were completed. The school cafeteria also completed their renovations and will start working on getting new equipment such as a stove which is greatly needed.

Our Lady of the Valley is preparing to start the new academic year with new curriculum to include music, art, crafts, keyboarding and after-school programming with a book club, student council, mission club and other groups.

The school will be hosting a ““Pastor's Day”” from 10 a.m. to noon Aug 30. For this event area parish pastors are invited to the school to attend a presentation, take a tour of the school, and have lunch. The purpose of the event is to have the pastors become aware of and knowledgeable of OLV School as well what the school provides to its students and parents. At St. Matthew School the new science lab is complete and the footbal/ soccer field is nearing completion. The well has been dug and the sprinkler system is currently being installed.

The school’’s classrooms have been cleaned, floors have been waxed, furniture and books have been ordered in anticipation of receiving new and former students.

St. Matthew is welcoming new employees: Delia Ugalde, secretary; Kristina Kniest, 1st grade; Georgeena Valdez,1st grade; Rosanna Ambriz, 4K aide, and Gloria Burciaga , afterschool care.
